Tooth Extractions Near You

It’s essential to take good care of your teeth. Poor oral hygiene habits can increase your risk of developing gum disease and tooth decay, which can ultimately lead to tooth loss. Other factors such as impacted wisdom teeth or overcrowding can also require extraction. At Wainwright Family Dental, we provide tooth extractions in Wainwright to help you achieve a healthier smile.

When are Tooth Extractions Required?

Our dentist will try to preserve your natural teeth at all costs. However, in some circumstances, an extraction is inevitable. In cases of excessive tooth decay, we recommend removing the tooth to prevent the decay from spreading to your gums and neighbouring teeth. The following are other scenarios where a tooth extraction would be recommended:

  • Wisdom teeth that grew at an angle or are impacted
  • Damaged teeth
  • Extra teeth causing misalignment or overcrowding
  • To make room prior to orthodontic treatment

The Procedure

If our dentist determines that you require a tooth extraction, we will thoroughly numb your gums and surrounding tissues with anesthesia before the procedure. Simple tooth extractions are performed for visible teeth, and complicated extractions are required when teeth are impacted under the gums. During a simple tooth extraction, our dentist will use tools to gently push and remove your teeth. In a complicated extraction, we will make a small incision into your gums to access the tooth and remove it. If you have any concerns about receiving tooth extractions near you, please feel free to contact us.

The Recovery Process

Please rest for the remainder of the day after your procedure. We will provide you with gauze pads to bite down on if the bleeding continues. It is important to eat soft foods, avoid spitting, and avoid using a straw for the first few days. To avoid complications, please do not dislodge the blood clots that have formed as they help heal your wound. We recommend gently rinsing with a warm salt water solution after the first day to keep your mouth clean. We will provide detailed instructions for you to follow.
